José Luis Gayà grows his legend at Valencia CF

Valencia CF captain José Luis Gayà surpasses Vicente Rodríguez in the number of official games played for Valencia CF (341)

Valencia CF captain José Luis Gayà continues to add to his Valencia CF history. On Tuesday, 2 January, after the match against Villarreal CF, he equalled Valencia CF legend Vicente Rodríguez in the number of games played (340) in a Valencia CF shirt, and after the Copa del Rey round of 32  tie against FC Cartagena, he has surpassed him (341).

"I am very proud of everything you are achieving and let's hope that you continue in the same way, that you play many more games and if it can be with victories, so much the better. Gayà is a reference, a very important player for the team, both defensively, offensively and in the dressing room as captain", said Vicente Rodríguez.

José Luis Gayà (25/05/1995) joined the VCF Academy at the age of 11 with the dream of defending the Valencia CF crest and playing at the Camp de Mestalla in front of the fans. Gradually, he grew to become one of the pillars of VCF Mestalla. As a result of his great performance and hard work, on 30 October 2012, he was given the opportunity to make his debut in an official match with the first team.

"For me, you have always been a reference, Vicente," said the player from Pedreguer.

His debut was against UE Llagostera, a match corresponding to the Copa del Rey. In 2013, he also played his first match in a European competition against Kuban Krasnodar in the Europa League and he made his LaLiga debut against Atletico Madrid.

Since then, he has taken all the necessary steps to become a sporting and emotional reference for Valencia CF, as well as becoming a Copa del Rey winner in 2019 and a full international with the Spanish national team.

Furthermore, after the match against RC Celta de Vigo, José Luis Gayà entered the top 10 of Valencia CF players with the most appearances in the top flight. The Valencia CF defender has 277 top-flight appearances, surpassing Vicente Asensi and Carlos Arroyo.
